Mental Health & Wellbeing

Mental Health & Wellbeing at YBPS

We see Mental Health and Wellbeing as a priority at our school for students, staff and community members.

Our school is shining the way for other schools across the state with its approach to Mental Health & Wellbeing.

YBPS Mental Health & Wellbeing Framework

At YBPS, we have a comprehensive and detailed framework that is used across all facets of the school to support the Mental Health and Wellbeing of all stakeholders.

The purpose of this framework, Yanchep Beach Primary School Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework, is to detail the continuing development of the Mental Health and Wellbeing curriculum and practices taking place at the school for 2023. This framework allows all staff at YBPS to confidently provide appropriate and preventative support for their students and colleagues, whilst ensuring a positive and open discussion is allowed for staff mental health and wellbeing.

Mindful Schools

In 2022, YBPS partnered with Mindful Meditation Australia to engage in the Mindful Schools Pathway. The Mindful Schools Pathway encompasses for steps: Mindful Amygdala, Mindful Education, Mindful Me and Mindful Families. At the beginning of Term 3, 2022, all current YBPS staff completed the Mindful Amgydala training. At the end of Term 3, 2022, five staff members completed the Mindful Me training, with another three completing the training in Term 4, 2022. Our school worked closely with the staff of Mindful Meditation Australia to complete three of the four steps, with Mindful Families being the last step needing to be completed. The school has been recognised as an official MMA school and will continue to work with MMA for years to come.

Berry Street Education Model

Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) is an educator-designed and evidence-led framework that empowers schools to create classrooms where every student is ready to learn and able to thrive. It can be challenging to balance student needs and that is why a holistic approach to education helps everyone. The Berry Street Education Model provides proven strategies that are easy for teachers to implement in the classroom. It empowers and equips educators to help all students succeed. BSEM increases the engagement of students with complex, unmet learning needs and successfully improve all students’ self-regulation, relationships, wellbeing, growth and academic achievement with pedagogical strategies that incorporate trauma-informed teaching, positive education, and wellbeing practices. BSEM is informed by trauma-informed practice, positive psychology, and the science of learning research. BSEM helps schools strengthen their whole-school approach to build consistence and predictability across all classrooms for all students.

Friendly Schools Plus

Friendly Schools Plus aims to increase pro-social behaviour and decrease anti-social behaviour by building and enhancing students’ personal and social capabilities. The program includes myriad whole school strategies that focus on minimising all instances of bullying. The overarching goal of the program is to create a unison in the school community that leads to a school culture being created and sustained that is positive, safe and welcoming to all and where staff and students experience positive social and emotional wellbeing.
